I visited Kumbh Mela!

Finally, I managed to visit the famous Kumbh mela@ prayagraj…
They say when you desire something deep from your heart… the whole universe gather to manifest it for you…
This was one small desire of mine to visit and experience the Kumbh Mela…
There was reluctance from the family… millions of people attending the mela… it’s not safe and advisable I was told… I couldn’t plan to go alone… I had given up finding a group or a companion… just a few days left… I got a call from one dear friend of mine… “Meeta, Kumbh chalogi? ”… I was jumping… I said yes… I realised I hadn’t asked my family… my daughter’s exams were also coming… I was a child again… friends made fun of my religious faith… how do I explain to anyone that going to Kumbh could be more than the religious faith?

I am born to experience life in diversity… why do I let a chance pass by…
Anyway… finally I was in Prayagraj last week… The first sight of it was an eye-opener…
The arrangements… Thousands of toilets… Thousands of dustbins… Not a piece of the plastic wrapper… no spits on the road… Pontoon bridges… Hundreds of boats… Roads made of metal sheets…What planning must have gone in the making of this mammoth arrangement…

My salute to The Prime Minister and the UP government… I understand its planning and execution was done keeping the forthcoming elections in mind… and the purpose well solved… Prime Minister Mr. Modi has won the hearts of the millions of the citizens who attended the Kumbh Mela…

Anyway… the highlights of my trip were the boat ride to Sangam… the ride was so beautiful with hundreds of seagulls flying over the river… doing their stunts in the sky…

A holy dip in the river… let me share a secret, I had gone with the plan of not taking a bath in the river as I cannot tolerate cold water… splashing some water was my idea of a holy bath… but just being there was so magical… the doubt just disappeared… the bath was refreshing… indeed there is something magical about the whole experience…

My visit to Kinnar Akhada was also a new experience… for the first time, the transgender community was given the spotlight… what caught my attention was the classic beautiful dance done by one of the transgender… I was mesmerised… I met another transgender… a very happy person named “Ruby” riding the bicycle in the night… the art, culture, and transgender put together was an eye opener… seeing them dancing in weddings or childbirth was the image I had in my mind… the Kinnar Akhada actually changed my perspective towards them…
Anyway… I should stop here… I am sharing some pictures and the link of the dance video by the kinner…
