Meeting Laxmi Agarwal – Survivor Acid Attack

Happy Wednesday

I met Laxmi Agarwal (survivor acid attack). I was unsure about my reaction to her looks when I saw her in person… I was a bit nervous… I was aware and conscious of not showing any guarded and designed behaviour towards her…
She is a very beautiful person indeed… I am not trying to make her feel good as she is an acid attack survivor… meeting and talking to her… she was glowing with positivity… purpose and confident… as rightly said… you can ruin the face but cannot deplete the soul…

What happened to her cannot be justified and no punishment is enough to the offender… I will not get into her story as it’s been told in many interviews… I just wonder how a girl is considered just like a commodity… property… threat… punishable…

You chase a girl… you harass a girl… if the girl reacts or rejects, one throws acid on the face or rapes or burns or kills because she is a girl after all… it’s her fault if she is a girl…
Till the time we don’t come across someone like Laxmi… we feel it cannot happen to us… Laxmi is also one of us who couldn’t think that she would be attacked with acid…
I remembered an incident when I was in college and a guy used to tease and follow me… I, as a bold girl reacted to it… it hurts a boy’s ego or his being a man to be snubbed or resisted by a girl… in my case it was in control… since I was in a strong situation… girl from a known family… many well-wishers and friends… the boy had to leave the town… but what if I could be a Laxmi too… when I think of it… I feel the fear inside me… because I was a girl… delicate… vulnerable and do you know what the mistake is? I am beautiful… so I should be looked at… I should be possessed and acquired as a prized possession… because I am a girl and I should stay like a girl… a trophy… a commodity…
Because I am a girl…
What if I am a girl… I still love my life… what if Laxmi’s face is burnt to the bones… to the soul.. the scars on her heart are deeper than the scars on her face…She still loves her life…

Love you life…
Ps- Thank you, Anurag Chauhan, for connecting me to one of the most beautiful souls…
